1. Scope and controller
This policy applies to the Marten application for Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, and Linux, and to the Marten privacy-policy webpage. The data controller is INTERNET SOLUTIONS LLC, registered in Russia as ООО «Интернет Решения» (OGRN 1265200010811, INN 5260504714), 151 Maksima Gorkogo Street, Nizhny Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod Region, 603006, Russia.
Marten does not provide an account system or a built-in VPN service. You choose and import configurations and subscription sources. A subscription provider, proxy or VPN server operator, or website you visit acts independently under its own terms and privacy policy.
2. Data processed by Marten
| Category | What is processed | Why and where |
|---|---|---|
| Configurations and preferences | Imported profile content, subscription URLs, route rules, selected server, app settings, and local logs. | Used on your device to provide the VPN/proxy features. Stored locally; profile content is encrypted at rest. It is sent only to the endpoints required by the configuration or subscription you chose. |
| Installation and subscription identifiers | A pseudonymous device identifier, an authentication secret, a per-profile push binding identifier, platform, app version, and locale. | Sent to the applicable subscription service to bind and refresh a subscription, prevent unauthorized sharing, and register silent refresh notifications. The receiving server also necessarily sees the request IP address. |
| Push messaging data | A Firebase Cloud Messaging installation/token and data-only refresh signals. | Used on mobile platforms to tell Marten that a user-installed subscription may be refreshed. Refresh signals do not contain the subscription URL, configuration, credentials, or traffic content. |
| Diagnostics | Crash and ANR stack traces, app and OS version, device model and technical state, timestamps, installation/session identifiers, and a short bounded context of redacted app events. | Sent to Firebase Crashlytics to diagnose failures and improve reliability. Crash reporting is enabled by default and can be disabled in Settings → General → Send error reports. Marten filters secrets, profile URLs, server addresses, tokens, identifiers, and traffic content from its added diagnostic context. |
| Public IP information | The public IP address visible to an IP-information service and the resulting approximate country, region, city, network, and organization. | Used to show connection information and verify the selected route. Depending on availability, Marten may contact ipwho.is, api.ip.sb, ipapi.co, or ipinfo.io. This is approximate network-derived location; Marten does not request device GPS location. |
| Support and website data | Information you include in an email, plus ordinary web-server data such as IP address, timestamp, requested path, user agent, and response status. | Used to respond to requests and to secure and operate the public webpage. |
3. Data accessed locally
Some information is accessed only when needed for a feature and is not uploaded to INTERNET SOLUTIONS LLC:
- Network traffic: the VPN engine processes packets on the device and sends them to the proxy or VPN endpoint you selected. We do not operate a central system that receives a copy of your traffic. Endpoint operators and destination services may observe data as permitted by the relevant protocol and their policies.
- Camera: camera frames are used on-device when you open the QR scanner. Marten does not retain or upload those frames.
- Clipboard and files: Marten reads them only after you choose an import action or invoke a related shortcut. Selected content is parsed on-device and stored as part of your local settings or configuration.
- Installed apps on Android: package names and app labels are read to let you choose which apps use or bypass the VPN. This list remains on the device unless you explicitly export the related settings.
4. How data is used
We process the limited data above to provide features you request, maintain subscriptions and silent refresh, secure services and enforce limits, diagnose crashes, answer support requests, and comply with law. We do not use the data for advertising, cross-app tracking, profiling for marketing, or sale.
5. Sharing and service providers
Data is disclosed only as needed to:
- Google Firebase: Firebase Crashlytics processes diagnostics; Firebase Cloud Messaging processes installation identifiers and push tokens. Google acts as a service provider under its applicable data-protection terms.
- Your chosen services: subscription providers, proxy/VPN endpoints, CAPTCHA pages, public IP-information services, and destination services receive the data technically necessary for your request. Their processing is governed by their own policies.
- GitHub: when you check for or download a public Marten update, GitHub receives ordinary request metadata.
- Authorities or professional advisers: only where reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users, investigate abuse, or establish and defend legal claims.
We require processors acting for us to protect personal data consistently with this policy and applicable law. We do not sell or rent personal data.
6. Retention
- Local configurations, preferences, and logs remain until you delete them, clear app data, or uninstall Marten.
- Subscription and push registrations are kept while the related profile or subscription remains active and are removed or anonymized when they are no longer needed, when the provider deletes them, or following a valid deletion request.
- Firebase states that Crashlytics crash traces and associated installation identifiers are generally retained for 90 days before deletion begins. Disabling crash reporting stops future collection by Marten and deletes reports that have not yet been sent.
- Support correspondence and security records are retained only as long as reasonably needed to resolve the request, protect the service, meet legal obligations, or defend claims.
7. Security
Marten encrypts stored profile content and protects installation secrets using platform security facilities such as Android Keystore and Apple Keychain. Network requests use transport encryption when the selected endpoint supports it. We minimize diagnostic context, apply redaction before remote reporting, restrict access, and avoid cloud backup of Android app files, databases, and preferences. No system can be guaranteed completely secure; keep imported credentials and exported debug data private.
8. Your choices and rights
- Disable remote error reporting at any time in Settings → General → Send error reports.
- Remove a profile to delete its local content and request unregistration of its push binding.
- Deny camera or notification permission in system settings; the related optional feature may stop working.
- Clear Marten's app data or uninstall it to remove local data.
- Email info@marten.pw to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or a copy of personal data controlled by INTERNET SOLUTIONS LLC, or to withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing. We may need enough information to verify and locate the relevant record.
Requests concerning a third-party subscription provider or VPN/proxy endpoint must be directed to that provider. You may also complain to the data-protection authority available in your jurisdiction.
9. International processing
Service providers and user-selected endpoints may process data in countries other than yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate contractual or legal safeguards. The location of a VPN/proxy endpoint is chosen through your imported configuration.
10. Children
Marten is not directed to children under 13, or the higher minimum age required in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal data to us.
11. Changes
We may update this policy when Marten's data practices or legal requirements change. The effective date above will be revised, and material changes will be communicated through an appropriate channel. The current version is always available at this URL.
